Zaif taxes, API plus a statement.

Good to know
Zaif specifics.
- Zaif’s API has no trade-history endpoint that HashBooks can read, so trades must come from a file. Without them your gains can’t be worked out.
- HashBooks prepares your report for the country where you file, not where Zaif is based, so gains on Zaif follow your own country’s rules.
How to connect
Connect Zaif in a few minutes.
Pick the method that suits you — both land in the same ledger. Stuck? See connecting accounts in the help centre.
- Sign in to Zaif and open its API management page.
- Create a new API key and enable read (view-only) permission only. Leave trading and withdrawals switched off.
- In HashBooks, choose Zaif under Integrations and paste the API key and secret.
- HashBooks syncs your full history and keeps it up to date.
- Download your trade, deposit and withdrawal history from Zaif.
- Copy the rows into the HashBooks CSV / Excel template: date, type, what you sent and received, the fee, and any TDS.
- Upload it in HashBooks, check the preview, then confirm. Uploading the same file twice never double-counts.

Worked example
The numbers, worked through.
A typical Zaif sale, as your tax office would treat it. These are example figures, not yours; HashBooks uses your own history for those.
Illustrative · United States
| Proceeds | $3,500 |
|---|---|
| Cost basis (FIFO) | −$2,000 |
| Long-term gain | $1,500 |
| Tax at the 15% long-term rate | $225 |
Held a year or less, the same gain would be taxed at your ordinary rate, for example 22%: $330. The full example in the help centre.
Illustrative · United Kingdom
| Net gain | £20,000 |
|---|---|
| Less the annual exempt amount | −£3,000 |
| Taxable gain | £17,000 |
| £10,270 in the basic-rate band × 18% | £1,848.60 |
| Remaining £6,730 × 24% | £1,615.20 |
| Capital Gains Tax | £3,463.80 |
Your salary decides how much of the gain falls in the 18% band. The full example in the help centre.
Illustrative · India
| Sale value | ₹1,50,000 |
|---|---|
| Cost of acquisition | −₹1,00,000 |
| Gain (the ₹500 fee isn’t deductible) | ₹50,000 |
| Tax at 30% | ₹15,000 |
| Cess at 4% | ₹600 |
| Total tax | ₹15,600 |
| Less 1% TDS already deducted | −₹1,500 |
| Balance at filing | ₹14,100 |
A loss on another coin wouldn’t reduce this: VDA losses can’t be set off. The full example in the help centre.

Security
A read-only Zaif key, and nothing more.
Even if the key were misused, a view-only Zaif key cannot trade or withdraw. It is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and removed when you disconnect. How HashBooks keeps data safe.
Questions
Zaif, answered.
Does Zaif report my trades to the tax office?
Reporting depends on where Zaif is regulated and where you live, so don’t rely on it. Your return has to include every sale and swap across all your platforms, which is what HashBooks brings together.
Why do I need a file for Zaif trades?
The Zaif API gives HashBooks your balances but not your trades. Download your trade history from Zaif and upload it with the HashBooks template; the two sources land in the same ledger.
How do I get my Zaif transaction history for taxes?
Connect Zaif with a read-only API key and HashBooks pulls the history for you. You can also export a statement from Zaif and upload it with the HashBooks template.
Which HashBooks plan do I need for Zaif?
Connecting Zaif and seeing an estimated tax summary is free for up to 100 transactions across 3 connections. Filing reports for your country start on the Starter plan; see pricing.
Can HashBooks trade or withdraw on Zaif?
No. The key you create is view-only, and HashBooks contains no code that can trade, withdraw or transfer. It’s encrypted with AES-256-GCM and deleted the moment you remove Zaif.
