Status

Fantom is winding down.

Fantom Opera was a general-purpose EVM L1 for DeFi and dApps; FTM is migrating 1:1 to S on the successor Sonic chain.

  • Your past activity on the chain stays on-chain, and HashBooks still reads it from your address
  • Bridging assets back is a transfer between your own wallets, not a sale
  • Keep the history: you may need it for the year you dispose of the assets

How to connect

Bring Fantom in.

It takes a couple of minutes. Stuck? See connecting accounts in the help centre.

  1. Copy your public Fantom address (starts with 0x) — never your seed phrase or private key.
  2. In HashBooks, add a wallet and paste the address.
  3. HashBooks reads the full on-chain history for that address and classifies every transfer.

Good to know

Fantom specifics.

  • One 0x address works across EVM networks, Fantom included, but each network records its own transactions. Add your address once more for Fantom.
  • Gas on Fantom is paid in FTM (Fantom). Every fee spends a little FTM, and HashBooks records each one at its value on the day.
  • Fantom has been succeeded by Sonic. The S token is Sonic's native token and pays transaction fees.
  • FTM holders can upgrade to S through the Sonic Upgrade Handbook. The two-way FTM to S swap covers the first 90 days after launch, and after that the swap is one-way from FTM to S.
  • Sonic launched on December 18, 2024. Block rewards were migrated from Fantom Opera to Sonic.

Questions

Fantom, answered.

Is bridging to Fantom taxable?

Moving your own crypto to Fantom through a bridge is generally not a sale, because you still own it. Watch for bridges that swap the token on the way: receiving a different asset can be a disposal. HashBooks matches the two sides when both addresses are connected.

Are Fantom gas fees tax deductible?

It depends on your country. In the US and UK a fee paid on a trade usually becomes part of its cost or reduces proceeds; in India only the cost of acquisition is deductible. HashBooks applies the rule for the country you file in.

Which HashBooks plan do I need for Fantom?

Connecting Fantom and seeing an estimated tax summary is free for up to 100 transactions across 3 connections. Filing reports for your country start on the Starter plan; see pricing.

Can HashBooks move anything from my Fantom address?

No. A public address shows history but can’t sign anything, and HashBooks never asks for a recovery phrase or private key. It reads; it can’t trade, withdraw or transfer.
