What people use it for

Rootstock and its bitcoin.

Rootstock is a Bitcoin sidechain secured by merged mining that runs EVM smart contracts using rBTC as gas.

  • BTC bridged onto the chain, recorded as a transfer, not a sale
  • Swaps and lending using bridged BTC
  • Gas paid in BTC on the network

How to connect

Rootstock, step by step.

It takes a couple of minutes. Stuck? See connecting accounts in the help centre.

  1. Copy your public Rootstock address (starts with 0x) — never your seed phrase or private key.
  2. In HashBooks, add a wallet and paste the address.
  3. HashBooks reads the full on-chain history for that address and classifies every transfer.

Good to know

Rootstock specifics.

  • Your Rootstock address is the same 0x address you use on Ethereum and other EVM networks, but Rootstock keeps its own history: add the address for Rootstock to bring that history in.
  • Gas on Rootstock is paid in RBTC (Smart Bitcoin). Every fee spends a little RBTC, and HashBooks records each one at its value on the day.
  • Rootstock describes itself as a Bitcoin sidechain secured by over 85% of Bitcoin's hash power through merge mining.
  • The Rootstock Explorer is at https://explorer.rootstock.io/ and covers Rootstock mainnet and testnet.

Questions

Rootstock, answered.

Is bridging to Rootstock taxable?

Moving your own crypto to Rootstock through a bridge is generally not a sale, because you still own it. Watch for bridges that swap the token on the way: receiving a different asset can be a disposal. HashBooks matches the two sides when both addresses are connected.

Are Rootstock gas fees tax deductible?

It depends on your country. In the US and UK a fee paid on a trade usually becomes part of its cost or reduces proceeds; in India only the cost of acquisition is deductible. HashBooks applies the rule for the country you file in.

Which HashBooks plan do I need for Rootstock?

Connecting Rootstock and seeing an estimated tax summary is free for up to 100 transactions across 3 connections. Filing reports for your country start on the Starter plan; see pricing.

Can HashBooks move anything from my Rootstock address?

No. A public address shows history but can’t sign anything, and HashBooks never asks for a recovery phrase or private key. It reads; it can’t trade, withdraw or transfer.
