Upbit taxes, API plus a statement.
Upbit’s API returns your deposits and withdrawals, but not your trade history. Connect a read-only key for those, and bring trades in from a statement.

Good to know
Upbit specifics.
- Upbit’s API has no trade-history endpoint that HashBooks can read, so trades must come from a file. Without them your gains can’t be worked out.
- Registered IP addresses must be public IPv4 addresses. Private IPs cannot be registered.
- An expired key must be deleted and a new key issued.

How to connect
Upbit, step by step.
Pick the method that suits you — both land in the same ledger. Stuck? See connecting accounts in the help centre.
- Log in to Upbit on the PC web version.
- Go to My Page > Open API Management.
- Select only the API function permissions you need. The page gives asset lookup as an example. It does not name a separate read-only permission.
- Register the public IPv4 address that will call the API. Private IP addresses are rejected, and the page recommends a static IP.
- In HashBooks, choose Upbit under Integrations and paste the key and secret.
- Download your trade, deposit and withdrawal history from Upbit.
- Copy the rows into the HashBooks CSV / Excel template: date, type, what you sent and received, the fee, and any TDS.
- Upload it in HashBooks, check the preview, then confirm. Uploading the same file twice never double-counts.

Worked example
The numbers, worked through.
A typical Upbit sale, as your tax office would treat it. These are example figures, not yours; HashBooks uses your own history for those.
Illustrative · United States
| Proceeds | $3,500 |
|---|---|
| Cost basis (FIFO) | −$2,000 |
| Long-term gain | $1,500 |
| Tax at the 15% long-term rate | $225 |
Held a year or less, the same gain would be taxed at your ordinary rate, for example 22%: $330. The full example in the help centre.
Illustrative · United Kingdom
| Net gain | £20,000 |
|---|---|
| Less the annual exempt amount | −£3,000 |
| Taxable gain | £17,000 |
| £10,270 in the basic-rate band × 18% | £1,848.60 |
| Remaining £6,730 × 24% | £1,615.20 |
| Capital Gains Tax | £3,463.80 |
Your salary decides how much of the gain falls in the 18% band. The full example in the help centre.
Illustrative · India
| Sale value | ₹1,50,000 |
|---|---|
| Cost of acquisition | −₹1,00,000 |
| Gain (the ₹500 fee isn’t deductible) | ₹50,000 |
| Tax at 30% | ₹15,000 |
| Cess at 4% | ₹600 |
| Total tax | ₹15,600 |
| Less 1% TDS already deducted | −₹1,500 |
| Balance at filing | ₹14,100 |
A loss on another coin wouldn’t reduce this: VDA losses can’t be set off. The full example in the help centre.

Security
A read-only Upbit key, and nothing more.
Even if the key were misused, a view-only Upbit key cannot trade or withdraw. It is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and removed when you disconnect. How HashBooks keeps data safe.
Questions
Upbit, answered.
Does Upbit report my trades to the tax office?
Reporting depends on where Upbit is regulated and where you live, so don’t rely on it. Your return has to include every sale and swap across all your platforms, which is what HashBooks brings together.
Why do I need a file for Upbit trades?
The Upbit API gives HashBooks your deposits and withdrawals but not your trades. Download your trade history from Upbit and upload it with the HashBooks template; the two sources land in the same ledger.
How do I get my Upbit transaction history for taxes?
Connect Upbit with a read-only API key and HashBooks pulls the history for you. You can also export a statement from Upbit and upload it with the HashBooks template.
Which HashBooks plan do I need for Upbit?
Connecting Upbit and seeing an estimated tax summary is free for up to 100 transactions across 3 connections. Filing reports for your country start on the Starter plan; see pricing.
Can HashBooks trade or withdraw on Upbit?
No. The key you create is view-only, and HashBooks contains no code that can trade, withdraw or transfer. It’s encrypted with AES-256-GCM and deleted the moment you remove Upbit.
