Good to know
Metis specifics.
- On Metis you use the same 0x address as on Ethereum. The transactions are separate, though, so the address needs adding for Metis as well.
- Metis is an Ethereum layer 2. Bridging ETH or tokens from Ethereum moves your own assets, so HashBooks records it as a transfer with the original cost carried over, not a sale.
- Metis is a native token and also an ERC20 compatible token on Layer 2.
- Metis Andromeda address pages are linked from the FAQ at https://andromeda-explorer.metis.io.
From Metis’s own pages: docs.metis.io. Checked October 2026.
How to connect
Connect Metis in a few minutes.
It takes a couple of minutes. Stuck? See connecting accounts in the help centre.
- Copy your public Metis address (starts with 0x) — never your seed phrase or private key.
- In HashBooks, add a wallet and paste the address.
- HashBooks reads the full on-chain history for that address and classifies every transfer.

How the tax adds up.
A typical move onto Metis, as your tax office would treat it. These are example figures, not yours; HashBooks uses your own history for those.
Illustrative · United States
| Bridge 1 ETH from Ethereum (cost $2,000) | Not a sale |
|---|---|
| Swap the ETH for tokens worth | $2,600 |
| Cost basis carried over the bridge | −$2,000 |
| Gain on the swap | $600 |
| Gas paid in ETH, added to cost | −$4 |

The bridge keeps your original cost; the swap is the taxable event. The full example in the help centre.

|---|---|
| Swap the ETH for tokens worth | £2,100 |

| Gain (gas isn’t deductible) | ₹50,000 |
| Tax at 30% plus 4% cess | ₹15,600 |
On-chain swaps have no exchange to deduct TDS, so check whether you need to pay it. The full example in the help centre.

Questions
Metis, answered.
Is bridging to Metis taxable?
Moving your own crypto to Metis through a bridge is generally not a sale, because you still own it. Watch for bridges that swap the token on the way: receiving a different asset can be a disposal. HashBooks matches the two sides when both addresses are connected.
Are Metis gas fees tax deductible?
It depends on your country. In the US and UK a fee paid on a trade usually becomes part of its cost or reduces proceeds; in India only the cost of acquisition is deductible. HashBooks applies the rule for the country you file in.
Which HashBooks plan do I need for Metis?
Connecting Metis and seeing an estimated tax summary is free for up to 100 transactions across 3 connections. Filing reports for your country start on the Starter plan; see pricing.
Can HashBooks move anything from my Metis address?
No. A public address shows history but can’t sign anything, and HashBooks never asks for a recovery phrase or private key. It reads; it can’t trade, withdraw or transfer.
