CEX.IO taxes, API plus a statement.

Good to know

CEX.IO specifics.

  • CEX.IO’s API has no trade-history endpoint that HashBooks can read, so trades must come from a file. Without them your gains can’t be worked out.
  • Up to 30 statements can be generated per month. Each statement stays downloadable for 30 days after it is generated.
  • A new API key is not active until it is activated with the code sent to your email.

From CEX.IO’s own pages: support.cex.io, support.cex.io, support.cex.io. Checked October 2026.

How to connect

CEX.IO, step by step.

Pick the method that suits you — both land in the same ledger. Stuck? See connecting accounts in the help centre.

  1. Log in to CEX.IO and click your name in the upper-right corner of any Spot Trading page, then select Profile.
  2. In the left-hand navigation bar, select API Keys Management.
  3. Click + NEW API KEY.
  4. Enter a name for the key in the API Key Name field.
  5. Under permissions, keep only Read. Read is the default and allows only requests for data. Do not select Trade, Funds Internal or Funds Wallet.
  6. Optional: enter allowed IP addresses in the IPs for whitelisting field. If the field is left blank, the key can be used from any IP address.
  7. Click Create API Key and confirm with your 2FA code.
  8. Save the API Secret shown in the next pop-up. It cannot be viewed again.
  9. Click Activate next to the key and enter the code sent to your email.
  10. In HashBooks, choose CEX.IO under Integrations and paste the key and secret.

Worked example

One example, line by line.

A typical CEX.IO sale, as your tax office would treat it. These are example figures, not yours; HashBooks uses your own history for those.

Security

A read-only CEX.IO key, and nothing more.

The CEX.IO key you create can only view. HashBooks has no way to place an order or move funds, stores the key encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and deletes it when you disconnect. How HashBooks keeps data safe.

Questions

CEX.IO, answered.

Does CEX.IO report my trades to the tax office?

Reporting depends on where CEX.IO is regulated and where you live, so don’t rely on it. Your return has to include every sale and swap across all your platforms, which is what HashBooks brings together.

Why do I need a file for CEX.IO trades?

The CEX.IO API gives HashBooks your ledger entries such as rewards and interest but not your trades. Download your trade history from CEX.IO and upload it with the HashBooks template; the two sources land in the same ledger.

How do I get my CEX.IO transaction history for taxes?

Connect CEX.IO with a read-only API key and HashBooks pulls the history for you. You can also export a statement from CEX.IO and upload it with the HashBooks template.

Which HashBooks plan do I need for CEX.IO?

Connecting CEX.IO and seeing an estimated tax summary is free for up to 100 transactions across 3 connections. Filing reports for your country start on the Starter plan; see pricing.

Can HashBooks trade or withdraw on CEX.IO?

No. The key you create is view-only, and HashBooks contains no code that can trade, withdraw or transfer. It’s encrypted with AES-256-GCM and deleted the moment you remove CEX.IO.
